  • Mariya Pyter is a Russian director, screenwriter and producer. She began her career in St. Petersburg, Russia. While in Russia, she worked as a theater production manager and director (Open space Theater, Russia), journalist (TNT, NT
    V, RenTV) and on film sets as assistant director (LenFilm). Inspired by the tradition of American cinema she moved to Los Angeles to continue her development as an artist. In 2016 Mariya completed a Directing program at UCLA Extension. One of her latest film "The Dead are Silent," is based on the novel by Arthur Schnitzler whose other novel, "Rhapsody: A Dream Novel," was the basis for Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut." "The Dead are Silent" is a film-noir brought to life in collaboration with cinematographer Glen David Miller ("Titanic", "Dogma"). In collaboration with cinematographer Bruce Finn (USC) Mariya Pyter directed Women In Film Public Service Announcement for the charity "A New Way of Life: Re-entry Project" featuring rap by Bre-Z ("Empire"). Mariya believes in importance of finding the solutions for issues connected to poverty, homelessness, liberty, AIDS and many more. That's why Susan Burton's (CNN hero 2010) charity "A new way of life: re-entry project" that helps women to make a successful community re-entrance after being in prison was one of the key projects of the 2016 for Mariya. PSA won Gold Aurora award 2017. In 2018 Ms. Pyter completed action film "On the way to Lovetown", served as a producer and segment director for the new Youtube variety show "THE HOT TAKE!", directed feature documentary "22" that explores the system put in place for kids in special needs in United States, focusing on the fact that at age 22 kids with special needs grew out from the day publicly funded special education programs leaving parents with very little choice. Ms. Pyter's short film "Danny Danielle" was selected as a finalist of 48 Film Project and was screened at DGA Theater in March 2018. Movie received 6 nominations (best director, best cinematography, best editing, best writing, best lead and supporting actress) and won 2 in best lead and supporting actress category. 2017 "One second" WIF PSA, she served as an associate producer for, received Gold Telly award 2018. Mariya is an active member of Women in Film and part of the Artemis Women in Action film festival marketing team. She supports the empowerment of women in the film both in front and behind the camera. She conducted a Directing Workshop at the Rough Cut film festival 2016, Philadelphia and served as a judge at the Rough Cut Film Festival 2017. She's currently teaching the Cinema Lab at STEM WORLD and is involved in several productions.
